Bingo! Mad Angles Turned a Flavor Launch into CID’s Biggest Mystery Case

The Case of the Mystery Flavor

What happens when an FMCG snack brand decides to hide the very thing it is selling? Bingo! Mad Angles, already riding high on the success of its Achaari Masti variant, chose to launch its new Mystery Pickle flavor not as a routine but a participatory experience and tasked us with the agenda. In a category where brand noise is deafening and consumer attention spans are shrinking by the scroll, we chose intrigue over information to not just launch a product, but create a mystery case.

Product as the Crime. Nostalgia as a Lever

The creative insight behind this FMCG snack brand social media campaign was deceptively simple: to crack a mysterious case, you need legendary detectives. The brand brought in ACP Pradyuman, Daya, and Dr. Salunkhe – the cult trio from India’s longest-running crime drama, CID.

Most product launches position the item as the hero. Our social media campaign idea flipped this model completely where the Mystery Pickle chip was the suspect, the evidence, and the prize, all at once.  The strategy also banked on gamification as a core engagement mechanic inviting customers to guess flavours, to transform a passive purchase into an active digital touchpoint.

The strategy blended deep-rooted cultural nostalgia of CID with fresh chaos, positioning the Mystery Pickle not as a product to be sold, but as a legitimate case to be cracked.

The Investigation Unfolds

The campaign launched with a hero film built entirely on comedic tension. The CID trio applied their signature forensic intensity (magnifying glasses, solemn declarations, dramatic slow-motion) to the absurd task of identifying a chip flavor. In a surreal twist, they faced off against their own ‘Mad Angles doppelgangers’ in a scene that escalated the chaos into a genuinely memorable set piece. The film functioned as a meme engine before it even officially went viral, giving the internet exactly the kind of absurdist content it hungers for.

Removing the flavor name from the pack and replacing it with a QR code was a bold, deliberate design decision that turned packaging into a dynamic campaign element.

This ‘snackable mystery’ whodunnit drove a steady stream of user-generated content, speculation posts, and reaction memes that audiences hooked well beyond launch day.

A consistent meme-first social content strategy maintained the investigative narrative across weeks, keeping the brand visible in feeds without relying purely on paid amplification. Each element of the campaign ecosystem, the hero film, the packaging, the digital contest, and organic social posts, reinforced the others, creating a self-sustaining engagement loop that the brand actively fueled with real-time community interaction.

A Record-Breaking Case, Closed

The results validate the strategy with authority. The campaign achieved a reach of 67.3 million across platforms, generated a staggering 358.4 million impressions, and drove an engagement rate of 21% — a benchmark that significantly outperforms standard social media engagement metrics in the FMCG category.

This consumer engagement campaign delivered a clear lesson for every FMCG marketer: audiences don’t just want products; they want to participate in stories. By transforming a flavor launch into an interactive detective narrative, powered by cultural nostalgia, physical-digital integration, and perfectly calibrated humor, we helped Bingo! Mad Angles built a campaign that made people feel genuinely part of something.

In a crowded snack category where every brand is fighting for shelf space and screen time, it  proved that mystery – paired with the right cultural collaborators, a participatory mechanic, and a genuinely funny idea – is the most powerful flavor of all.
